The former Michigan State cornerback announced Thursday evening he is transferring to Washington State. The redshirt sophomore entered the transfer portal on Dec. 24 after not being part of the team at the end of the season.
Jackson had 10 tackles, including two for a loss, and one pass break-up in nine career games with two starts. The former three-star recruit from Georgia didn’t play while taking a redshirt as a true freshman in 2018 and appeared mostly on special teams in five games the following year. Jackson started the first two games this season, missed the next two due to what coach Mel Tucker indicated was an injury, returned to play against Northwestern and Ohio State and was out for a Dec. 12 loss at Penn State that proved to be Michigan State’s final game of the year.
“Chris hasn’t been with the team and I really don’t anticipate him being back with the team this season,” Tucker said on Dec. 15. “We’ll assess everything with Chris after the season when we’re all wrapped up.”

Michigan State has had 15 players enter the transfer portal since Nov. 16 and Jackson is one of three cornerbacks, joining Julian Barnett and Davion Williams. Jackson is one of nine who has announced his next school and the second to land with a Power Five program, following fullback Max Rosenthal, who is headed to Illinois.
The other Spartan transfers who announced their next schools are Barnett (Memphis), Williams (Western Kentucky), linebackers Marcel Lewis (Central Michigan) and Jeslord Boateng (Akron), quarterback Rocky Lombardi (Northern Illinois), offensive lineman Devontae Dobbs (Memphis) and running back Anthony Williams Jr. (Akron). Those in the portal who haven’t name their next stop are linebackers Luke Fulton and Charles Willekes, receivers Tre’Von Morgan and Javez Alexander, running back Andre Welch and long snapper Jude Pedrozo.
Entering the portal doesn’t mean a player has to transfer but allows them to be contacted by coaches from other schools.
Michigan State has also landed commitments from five transfers in less than a month in Temple quarterback Anthony Russo, Auburn running back Harold Joiner, Arkansas State offensive lineman Jarrett Horst, Duke defensive end Drew Jordan and Wake Forest running back Kenneth Walker III.
